4 days from Agadir to Marrakech via Ouarzazate and Taroudant
Day 1: Agadir - Taroudante - Ouarzazate
We started our 4-day excursion from Agadir with a climb up the Atlas Mountains to the city of Taroudant; often called « Little Switzerland » because it has similar medina walls.
We then continue towards Taliouine; famous for its saffron production then Taznakht; famous for its rugs and carpets.
Next, we drive through the High Atlas mountain range and visit the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and a famous location used by film producers and directors.
After lunch, we continue to the Hollywood of Africa; Ouarzazate, to visit one of the film studios where there are still intact sets used in some successful films like Gladiator, Game of Thrones and Cleopatra. Half-board in a hotel in Ouarzazate.
Day 2: Ouarzazate - Todra Gorges - Merzouga Camel ride and night in the Erg Chebbi desert
From Ouarzazate, we leave the mountains and discover our first oasis; Skoura is a palm grove with many hidden kasbahs, the landscape changes again until we reach the Valley of the Roses with its pink kasbahs and fields bordered by Damascus roses. It is a fertile river valley called Dades which supplies all the small fields of crops, fruits and vegetables.
We continue on this road to Tinghir and ascend to Todra Gorge where we stop for lunch in this walled vertical canyon, in the afternoon we turn south through other oases filled with date palms and houses adobe and towns like Erfoud and Rissani until we meet again. In the vast open landscapes of the Sahara and the city of Merzouga.
Our camels will be waiting for us to take us to the golden dunes to watch the sunset and take us to our camp for the night. In Erg Chebbi you will live like nomads with dinner and music around a campfire and the sky full of stars above you, the silence and peace all around you.
Day 3: Merzouga - Rissani - Agdz
If you wake up early enough, you can experience the magic of a sunrise in the desert; a very special moment and a memory that you will always remember. We return to the hotel on camel back for breakfast and refreshment. Our adventure continues by discovering the village of Rissani and the desert towns of Alnif and N’Kob with their beautiful kasbahs. We will stop for lunch here and in the afternoon we will take the offroad option to discover the mighty Draa Valley with its vast palm oasis and ancient way of life. In the ksar of Agdz we will spend the night with half board.
Day 4: Agdz - Taznakht - Taliouine - Agadir
After breakfast, we cross the valley to Taznakht; famous for its Berber kilims and woven rugs. We return to Agadir crossing the Tizi n´Ikhsane and Tizi n´Tighatine passes of the Atlas Mountains. We stop for lunch in Taliouine, it is the main saffron growing area in Morocco and the harvest usually takes place in October. In the afternoon, the road takes us to Taroudant then to Agadir, where we arrive at the end of the afternoon.
