10 days from Tangier to Marrakech via Merzouga
DAY 1: TANGIER TO CHEFCHAOUEN
After meeting you at the place we had agreed, we will start our journey through the Rif mountains and the city of Tetoun to enjoy the view of the magnificent mountains until we reach Chefchaouan. In fact, it is one of the beautiful villages at the foot of the Rif Mountains. DAY 2: CHEFCHAOUEN - VOLUBILIS - MEKNES - FES
After your breakfast in the riad, we will start driving towards Volubilis passing through Wazan and other villages of the rif. Then in Volubilis we will discover the Roman ruins and learn more about the archaeological site of Moroccan history, after visiting the ruins we will go to the city of Meknes, the 17th century heritage where we will stop for lunch and hang out on the immense walls of the medina, bab el mansour and enjoy a visit to the sanctuary of moulay ismail. After the visit of Meknes, we will go directly to the city of Fez, where you will spend the night in a riad.
DAY 3: FULL DAY IN FES
After breakfast in your riad, you will explore the oldest city in Morocco, strolling through its alleys and small streets. Therefore, our tour begins with a visit to the gate of the Royal Palace, the Jewish seat, the first Mellah built in Morocco, built in the 16th century. First, we will make sure to visit all the sites of cultural and historical interest, including the famous Al Qaraouine University, the oldest in the region, the Tanneries, the Attarine Museum and the Mulay Idriss Mausoleum. After lunch, you will continue your Morocco Tours Tangier, visit the tile cooperative and then discover a magnificent panoramic view of the entire medina of Fez.
DAY 4: FES - IIFRANE - MIDELT - ZIZ VALLEY - ERFOUD - MERZOUGA
That day, we will start our trip to the southeast through the Middle Atlas, passing by Ifrane « the Moroccan Switzerland » then Azrou where we will make a stop in the famous cedar forest, the largest in Morocco to see and play with the Barbary apes. From there we drive further south passing several towns and you will have the chance to see nomads living in tents along the way. then we will stop at Midelt where you will enjoy your lunch. Later, we will continue our journey to Merzouga via the Tizi N’Talghomt pass (1907m) while enjoying the panoramic view. You will also have a stop to enjoy a panoramic view of the Aoufous palm grove along the Ziz river. At the end of the day, we will continue to the captivating dunes of Erg Chebbi, where you will spend the night in a Riad or a Hotel.
DAY 5: MERZOUGA - ERG CHEBBI - CAMEL TREKKING
After breakfast at your riad, you can explore the area a bit before starting your camel ride; You will visit the Gnawa, originally from Mali, Senegal and Sudan, in their village of Khamlia, where you will learn about their music and way of life. later we will drive to the desert area to meet nomadic families and explore their way of life. Today our lunch will be a traditional Berber meal (Berber pizza). You will also have the opportunity to visit the old town of Rissani, foundation of the Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling royal family in Morocco. Rissani is surrounded by around 360 ksar (a walled city with many towers) and has a large souk (an open market), which is held three times a week. Formerly called Sijilmassa, it was the meeting place for salt caravans from Timbuktu in Mali. Here you will walk through the souk, selling spices, vegetables and fabrics. Return to the town of Merzouga. In the afternoon, you will ride a camel, guided by an experienced camel driver, to explore what is hidden among the highest sand dunes in Morocco. Dinner will be served in front of the tent where you will spend the night.
DAY 6: MERZOUGA - TOUDRA GORGE - DADES VALLEY
In the morning after watching the sunrise over the Sahara dunes and having breakfast, we will return by camel to our hotel or Riad. Then we will cross Rissani, Alnif, Todra Gorge. Where we will enjoy the rocky canyon and have a traditional Moroccan lunch. We take a short walk through the gorges before reaching the Dades Valley for dinner and accommodation.
DAY 7: DADES VALLEY - OUARZAZATE - AIT BEN HADDOU - MARRAKECH
After breakfast, we will cross the Dades Valley to Kalaa M’gouna and Ouarzazate. From the road that runs through the Dades Valley is the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. There are many opportunities to take some of the best photos of your travels. Later, we will stop at the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou for lunch, the largest Kasbah in Morocco, built by T-hami El Glaoui, one of the last Berber chiefs at the beginning of the 20th century, it was one of his trials. During its long journey from the Sahara to Marrakech, now the kasbah is one of the UNESCO heritage sites. after that we will change the way to cross the high atlas mountains full of panoramic views and attractive berber villages to Marrakech. Then overnight in an elegant riad in the medina.
DAY 8: FULL DAY IN MARRAKECH
In the morning, after having breakfast in the riad, we explore Marrakech « the red city of Morocco », we will make sure that you see the most important sites of historical and cultural interest. First, the Majorelle gardens, the Koutoubia tower, the Saadian tombs, the Bahia palace. Then, after lunch in a restaurant near the square, you will walk through the souks and admire hundreds of handicrafts. In the afternoon you will have free time to marvel at other parts of the city on your own. Spend the night in the riad.
DAY 9: DAY IN ESSAOUIRA
After breakfast at your riad, you will start traveling to the coastal city of Essaouira, exploring the city. We will make sure to visit the fortress of Skala; see Thuja wood carved by artisans. Then, stroll through the alleys of the medina and admire hundreds of handicrafts. This « city of the wind » attracts surfers from all over the world. Essaouira has known many civilizations, including the Portuguese occupation. Therefore, they affect a large part of its architecture; however, it is still a small town with a lot of history. Due to its size and characteristics, blue doors and washed walls. It is also considered the « Jewel of the Atlantic » of Morocco.
Therefore, you will also visit the argan oil women’s cooperative. Here they extract the oil known for its culinary, cosmetic and medicinal properties. Lunch will be Moroccan style: fresh fish « cooked to order » at the fish market. Then in the afternoon, you will return to Marrakech. Finally one night in your riad.
